Pedagogy Seminar - Principles of Effective Retrieval Practice & Building Long Term Learning through Spacing

This seminar will be led by Graeme Zaple from Twynham School who will address any misconceptions around retrieval practice and go over the principles of effective retrieval practice. He will encourage delegates to start thinking about retrieval in the longer term and how this will impact our curriculum.

Session Outline: -

The session will include: -

· Reflection on what we already do in terms of retrieval in the classroom.

· Aims of retrieval practice.

· Review of Tom Sherrington’s ‘Principles of effective retrieval’.

· Ideas for different retrieval activities.

· The opportunity to start to reflect on spaced practice and planning retrieval for the longer term.

NOTE: This seminar will be most beneficial for those who are less confident in using retrieval or who have got stuck in the habit of doing the same thing. All colleagues are very welcome to attend, however, if you attended Graeme’s INSET session last year, it may not be necessary to attend this seminar as well.
